Complete Cheer & Dance Championships: College
Rules
All Complete Cheer & Dance Championship competitions
are open to all colleges, universities, and junior colleges.
General Rules
1) All teams must be supervised by qualified coach, director and/or trainer
at all times.
2) Directors and/or coaches must have, at all times, emergency contact
numbers for all of their team members.
3) Routines may not exceed three (3) minutes. Timing begins with the first
beat of music or sound effects. All participants must have at least one foot
on the performance floor when the routine begins.
4) While competing, all jewelry is strictly prohibited. This includes but is
not limited to; rings, earrings, facial rings, belly button rings, tongue
rings, pins, wrist and ankle bracelets (metal or otherwise) and rhinestones
applied to the skin. Participants may not tape over jewelry, jewelry must be
removed. Exception; medical alert bracelets or necklaces maybe worn provided
they are taped to the body. Rhinestones adhered to the uniform are also
allowed.
5) Soft-soled shoes must be worn at all times while competing. Gymnastics
shoes/slippers, Dance shoes/ boots or similar footwear are prohibited.
6) With the exception of a spring floor, any height increasing apparatus is
prohibited.
7) All Drops including but not limited to, seat, kneed, thigh, front, back,
split, and face drops from a jump, tumbling, inversion and stunts are
prohibited unless the majority of the weight is first borne by the hands and
/or feet, which substantially breaks the impact of the drop. Shushinovas are
allowed.
8) Pom pons, banners, flags, signs and megaphones are the only legal props
allowed. Props with poles or any other hard support surface may not be used
in conjunction of any kind of stunts and/or tumbling. All props must be
safely discarded, i.e. no throwing hard signs etc. across the mat.
9) Where a stunt requires a spotter or an additional spotter, the spotter
must be one of the participating team members
10) The flyer in a pyramid, toss, transition or partner stunt cannot be
released from bases with the intent to land or be caught in an inverted
position.
11) An individual may not jump flip, or dive over, under or through partner
stunts, pyramids or individuals from any toss of any kind (basket, sponge,
hand toss etc.
12) Leg pitch, toe pitch, walk in, sponge, and straddle catch front and back
flips are prohibited.
13) Front, side and back tension drops are prohibited.
14) All participants must be a registered full-time student of their college
or university. All participants must be official members of the college or
university school spirit squad. Spirit clubs are allowed provided they are
full-time students of their college and university. Please note on team
registration if you are a spirit club.
15) Mascots are permitted to use any props except fire, liquids, confetti
and glitter.
16) Braces and Casts: Medical Braces (prescribed) and/or supports may be
worn provided that any hard or unyielding surfaces shall be covered.
Participants that have a plaster or fiberglass cast may not be involved in
any stunts, tumbling or jumps. **
Traditional Multi-Based Stunts (Two bases and a Back Spot)
1. Single based split catches are illegal.
2. Stunts are limited to two high. Exception: 2-1-1
3. Inversions are allowed but must maintain hand to hand, hand to foot, or
hand to body contact between the bases and the flyer during the inversion.
Inverted stunts at 2 ½ high must be braced.
4. Dismounts to the competition floor from stunts and/or pyramids must be
assisted by an original base.
5. All flipping dismounts must end in a cradle, are limited to one flipping
rotation, zero twisting rotation and may only be performed from prep level.
6. No more than 2 ¼ twisting rotations in a cradle from an extended stunt.
7. Three (3) twisting rotations in a dismount are allowed as long as:
a. The twist is from a double based stunt at prep level. (2 bases and back
spot);
b. The dismount ends in a cradle;
c. Flyer is caught by the original two bases and back spot.
Co-Ed/Single Based Stunts
1. Single based split catches are illegal.
2. Dismounts to the competition floor from stunts and/or pyramids must be
assisted by an original base.
3. Any dismounts other than a regular cradle or straight dismount requires a
spotter in addition to the original base. E.g. toe touch, pike etc.
4. Twisting dismounts with more than a 360 degree rotation require an
additional spotter that assists in the cradle. Twisting rotations are
limited to 2 ¼ twists.
5. All flipping dismounts must end in a cradle and may only be a front
flipping dismount from prep level. Flipping dismounts require an additional
spotter and are limited to one head over heels rotation.
6. All flipping skills into a stunt require an additional spotter and are
limited to one head over heels rotation. No twists are allowed in
combination with a flipping mount. (eg rewinds)
7. One arm stunts require a spotter when;
a. Any stunt other than a cupie/awesome or basic liberty. All other one-arm
stunts, e.g. arabesque, heel stretch, scorpion, high torch, bow and arrow
etc. require a spotter
b. When the load in or dismount involves a twist. The spotter must be in
place during the twist and assist during the cradle.
c. The flyer is popped from one arm to the other.
8. Combination of flipping and twisting dismounts from stunts are
prohibited.
9. Double awesomes are allowed but require an additional spot for each
flyer.
Pyramids:
1. Pyramids are limited to 2 ½ high. Pyramid height is measured by body
lengths as follows: chairs, thigh stands and shoulder straddles are 1 ½
high, should stands are 2 high, extended stunts are (eg extension, liberty,
etc.) are 2 ½ high. Exception: an extended stunt on top of thigh stand is
allowed.
2. All 2 ½ high pyramids must have an active qualified spotter in the
front/side and back for each person on the third level and must be in a
position to adequately spot the flyer the entire time. Just prior to the
dismount, the spotter can move to the back to catch the cradle.
3. Cradles from pyramids over two high must use at least two catchers.
4. Twisting, toe touch and other variations other than a straight cradle
from a pyramid two high or above must use three catchers. One catcher must
be positioned at the head and shoulders of the flyer during the cradle.
5. All flips into or from pyramids are prohibited, with the exception of a
forward flip dismount to a cradle. The cradle must be caught by three
catchers.
Tosses:
1. All tosses (basket, sponge etc.) may only be performed from ground level,
can use no more than four bases, and must be cradled by three of the
original bases. One must be positioned at the head and shoulders of the
flyer during the cradle. (catching in a scoop position)
2. Basket and sponge/elevator tosses may not be directed so that the bases
must move to catch the flyer.
3. Basket and sponge/elevator tosses cannot exceed one flipping and two and
one quarter twisting rotations.
4. In flipping baskets and sponge/elevator tosses only two additional skills
are allowed in conjunction with the flip. One twisting rotation is
considered one skill. Examples:

5. Baskets and sponge/elevator load-ins can land in a stunt
or pyramid provided that the toss does not significantly exceed the height
of the intended skill. Flips into stunts or pyramids from a basket or
sponge/elevator are prohibited.
Tumbling
1. Dive Rolls are prohibited.
2. Tumbling skills that exceed one flipping rotation are prohibited.
3. Tumbling skills that exceed two or more twisting rotations are
prohibited.
4. Tumbling skills may not be performed over, under or through any stunt,
pyramid or individual.
